We are hoping to be on the road by October 30th. We have to be in Wekiva Springs FL on December 1 due to us having reservations at Wekiva Falls RV Resort.
Due to the weather, we need to head south, but beings this is our first attempt of driving a 44 ft 5th wheel, we want to start out with short distances. Until we get to South Carolina, the temps will be in the 60s during the day and can go as low as mid-30s during the night. This is the average for the month of November so hopefully, the beginning of November will be a tad warmer.
Until we get a definite start date I cannot make reservations. Preliminary planning has us stopping at a Harvest Host the first night. As soon as I get a definite date of departure, I will make this reservation. We are looking at the end of October.
There is a Horse Park in Lexington KY that we are interested in staying at. It is very dog-friendly. We are looking at booking for 4 nights and 5 days. That should take us into November.
Our next destination will be around Pigeon Forge. We would like to spend a week in this area and then due to us wanting to be in a warmer climate, we will head to SC. There is a Thousand Trails RV Park that I would like to spend some time at. We need to get some use out of our Thousand Trails membership. This TT RV Park is in Yemassee, SC.
Yemassee is close to both Charleston and Savannah so there will be plenty to do.
Yemassee has two attractions that are dog-friendly. This is very important to us. We will not leave our fur babies alone in the 5th wheel for more than 2 to 3 hours at a time.
We have to be in Florida on December 1. We have a month reserved at the Wekiva Falls RV Park. Hope we like it here because we paid in advance.
Each of our destinations is a 3.5 to 4-hour drive. This is our hope, not set in stone.
Because we are planning on short visits to each of these stopping points, we will not take the Gold Wing/sidecar out of the 5th wheel garage, leaving us just the space in the living area of the 5th Wheel. We can do this for one month.
We found a really nice park on the gulf coast in Texas for February that fits our needs and has availability. More to come on that park. We need to find something in-between Wekiva Springs and Texas for January due to the drive being too far.
Things are coming together in my planning stage. Just need to get dates and reservations. I know my sister and nieces probably are thinking, what in the heck do we do in the trailer all day. This research takes time and effort. Below is the information we need to obtain for one-month stays as well as shorter stays. This is what I email to RV Parks/resorts that we are interested in staying at. We do find some parks have turned us down because they have a 2 pet limit and some parks, well, we are just too long of a rig to fit in their park.
- We need full hookups/50 amps
- Our 5th wheel is 44 ft with slides. We have a patio that drops down in the back that added another 12 ft.
- Dog-Friendly. We have 3 small 11 pound pups
- Can we accept mail/packages
Most Southern FL parks are completely booked and VERY expensive and what is worse, Southern FL in the winter is crowded. VERY CROWDED AND LOTS OF TRAFFIC. No Thank You! I’m a country girl.
