Play by Play Wind Day

This is one time I am glad I am in my sticks and bricks home.  But, what if I was in the 5th Wheel.  We had advanced notice of this wind event so would I pick up and head out of harm’s way.   I believe if I had advanced notice, I would play it safe.  Since we do not have plans of being stationary, we would just pick up and head out.

So as for today, it’s going to be a very long day today. The wind is just now picking up. The sun is shining so it is creepy. Wind gusts can be 50 to 60 mph. Not in the mood for this.

Sunday 11:00 a.m.

Our house is 100% electric so if we lose electric, we don’t have heat, we don’t have water and of course, the typical things like lights, TV, Refrigerator.  Therefore, we are preparing by filling containers with water.  We have a wood burner in our lower level so it will be ready in the event the electric goes out.  Our cell phones and computers and anything we can charge is charged.  I have a bunch of battery lanterns.  It will be very quiet and then a gust picks up.  Very scary.

Sunday 2:15 p.m.

Electric went out.  My phone is charged.  My laptop battery is at 100% and so is my MIFI.  Won’t last forever though.  We might be getting Pizza for supper.  That would mean one of us would have to go outside and drive.  No delivery where i live.

4:30 p.m.

Still no electric. Getting a little chilly in the house. Deciding if we should fire up the wood burner. We have wood.

Monday 7:00 p.m.

Electric anticipated being fixed by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday for the majority of people.  I hope we are in that majority.  I have the next 4 days off work.  I don’t mind because I think it will be nice to unplug.  I have internet from my MIFI and phone hotspot until the batteries go dead.  So I can update my blog and sporadically keep in touch with the outside world.  Tomorrow my plan is to clean out my room where I get dressed.  This room is in the lower level of our house.  I will take before and after pictures.

Tuesday 2:15 a.m.

Laying in bed sleeping, we heard a click.  Much to our surprise, our electric was on.  Let there be light!  Thank you to the Penn Power workers that worked in the dark and cold through the night just to restore my electric.  There are still a bunch of homeowners without electric.

I will publish this post and update it as things happen.
